About us..
Cornelis van der Peet founded in 1953 his antiquarian bookshop in the
Nieuwe Spiegelstraat 31-33.
He specialized in books about non-European arts and due to his stay in Indonesia, books about that country became the main part of the firm. Soon he added China, Japan, South-East Asia and later Africa to the specialities.
In the beginning, Japanese woodblock prints (ukiyo-e) were rare in the collection, but when his wife Corinne took over the daily handling of the shop, more and more were bought and sold and at the end of the seventies she held exhibitions, accompanied by catalogues.
In those days I was a bookbinder, but helped out one day a week, specializing in the Japanese prints.
After her death in 1986 (my father died in 1983) my husband Erik and I took over the print section from my parents and moved with them to the other side of the street to nr. 32 where my husband had his shop, specialized in mainly Western art (old master prints, prints around 1900, topographical prints and maps), I stopped my bookbinding and have worked ever since in the shop.
We issue once a year a catalogue with ca. 65 new acquisitions that accompanies a ten days exhibition, late spring or early summer.
In December we participate at the Arts Fair PAN in Amsterdam, and issue a small catalogue of about 20 new prints.
Other fairs are: Kunst en Antiekbeurs s'Hertogenbosch
April 10 - 20 2008
New York Fine Print Fair
Armory New York
October 30 - November 2 2008
We are an old firm, but are totally new with the New World of internet.
We hope that you like our site that is slowly growing in form and substance.
